Rowan Jacobsen returns to Portland

Saturday, Oct 11, 2008 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

James Beard Award-winning journalist Rowan Jacobsen comes back to Portland on Saturday October 11th from 3:00 to 5:00pm to celebrate the publication of his new book Fruitless Fall, The Collapse of the Honey Bee and the Coming Agricultural Crisis. The author will read from and sign his book. Honey related refreshments will be available.

Jacobsen's new title examines the role of the honey bee in contemporary agriculture and warns of the dangers of the potential loss of this important link in the chain of botanical life. Jacobsen visited Portland last January, where he read from his previous book, The Geography of Oysters, for which he won a prestigious James Beard Award this year.

Also on display will be an installation piece by local artist Jenna Crowder titled, "Meditations on Community," which draws its inspiration from the bees.
