Zat: Special Fiction Issue - October No. 2.

New York: Zat, Inc., 1984.

Single issue of a periodical, stapled in wrappers (27 x 21 cm.), 58 pages. Illustrated in black and white. FIRST EDITION. This Soho, New York 'zine spanned two years with five issues and includes Anthony Bourdain's first recorded appearance in print, with a short story that presages much of the work that made him famous. "The Young Caremians" is the story of a group of New York chefs, self-styled "Young Turks, on the brink of wiping away, by force of their sheer collective genius and originality, the Moustache Petes of the tired Frog Ponds, bland Nouvella Cucina, Fake Tex-Mex, and everything that was over-precious, over mesquited, over-done, over-trendy, or overly successful." In just three pages, the story covered the territories of sex, gambling, and murder. Bourdain would also write for issue #4 of Zat, and for the East Village 'zine Between C&D, both in 1985. Text block somewhat age-toned, light crease to front panel of wrapper; tiny bits of wear to wrapper edge, otherwise fine. [OCLC locates nine copies of the complete five-issue run].
