Ithaca, N.Y. New York State College of Agriculture. Rural Education Department, Winter 1947-48.
Volume 41, Number 3. Booklet, stapled in wrappers, 31 pages. Illustrated with line drawings and photographs. FIRST EDITION. Issued in the aftermath of the Great Blizzard of December 1947. Wilson "Snowflake" Bentley was a pioneering photographer, famous for taking incredibly detailed pictures of snowflakes; he developed a method of quickly photographing them as they lay on a blanket of black velvet. Together with his co-author W.J. Humphreys, he produced the magnificent work of microphotography, Snow Crystals (1931). Regarding this booklet, a note on the copyright page states, the "snowflakes on the cover were formed at low altitudes and high temperatures. Those on the back cover were formed at high altitudes and low temperatures." Very scarce. [OCLC locates the record, but no copies; Bibliography of Agriculture, vol. 12, no. 5, page 182].
