The Standard Cocktail Guide. A Manual of Mixed Drinks Written for the American Host.

New York: M. Barrows and Co., 1944.

Small octavo, 128 pages. Second printing. A simple listing of cocktail recipes, with a little extra advice on stocking a bar, and correct glassware usage. Not the full package, like the author's other drinks book; the Cocktail Guide and Ladies' Companion was not just a guide, but "a wise and witty discussion of the philosophy of drinking." But this one covers the basics, and it's still written by one of the great bon vivants of the 20th century. This title was also issued in a spiral binding with printed card covers, but this is the cloth issue with dust jacket, and handsomer as a result. clean, near fine copy in printed pale red cloth, in a lightly edgeworn dust jacket.
