The Alice B. Toklas Cook Book. Illustrations by Sir Francis Rose.

New York: Harper & Brothers, 1954.

Octavo (21.3 x 14.5 cm.), 288 pages. Index. Errata slip tipped-in. Early printing of the American edition. Toklas' famous memoir in the form of a cookbook, outlining her life in Paris with Gertrude Stein. The first American edition did not include her famous recipe for 'Hashische Fudge' (contributed to the U.K. edition by her good friend Brion Gysin) which cemented her place in the world of cannabis literature. Frequently misrepresented as a recipe for "pot brownies" the entry was further celebrated in Peter Sellars' film, I Love You Alice B. Toklas. Near fine, in publisher's red paper-covered boards over black cloth spine. In a near fine, unclipped dust jacket with a bit of age-toning and some very light edgewear; jacket designed by Shirley Smith.
