The Australian Convict Recipe Book.
Hobart, Tasmania: Southern Holdings Pty. Ltd., 1988.
Octavo-sized booklet, stapled in wrappers (20.5 x 15 cm.), 60 pages. Illustrated. FIRST EDITION. A collection of colonial Australian recipes, ostensibly from Bessie Baldwin, “cook to Sir John and Lady Franklin at Government House 1842-1849”. Baldwin arrived in the Tasmanian colony having been convicted at Westminster in 1839 of “riotous behavior”. She found favor with Sir John as his cook and was pardoned by him upon the end of his term as Governor. Very near fine in photographically illustrated wrappers.
