[Autograph Letter Signed, a French chef's employment inquiry with the American Military forces].

Megere, [Haut Savoie, France]: November 6th, 1944.

Bi-fold sheet, (18 x 14 cm.), [4] pages. With three punched holes, likely added later by the military office for organized storage. Two pages of manuscript text, with annotations in pen and pencil from various recipients in the chain of command, and with a red stamp of receipt, dated 15 Nov. 1944, to the rear panel. A French chef writes requesting employment as a chef or cook with the American Military Forces in France. While he signs the letter from the Hotel du Soleie d'Or in Megere in the Haut Savoie, he states his experience of "more than five years in the best hotels of New York City (U.S.A.)" While Paris had been liberated a few months before this letter was sent, the Germany's V2 rockets had only recently started flying, and the Battle of the Bulge was a few months off. One wonders what happened to this chef. Very good.
