Good Things to Eat and How to Prepare Them. Over two hundred choice recipes compiled especially for customers and friends of the Larkin Co. by the Larkin Kitchen-Laboratory Department.

Buffalo, NY: Larkin Co., [1906].

Octavo (21 x 14 cm.), 69, [1] pages. Illustrated with seven black & white plates, and with small promotional cuts in the text. Index. Advertisments. Stated FIRST EDITION (a second printing was issued the same year). One of the earliest "bake-off" cookbooks, compiled from thousands of recipes submitted to contests created by Buffalo's Larkin Company. In effect, the Larkin Co., has brought the contestants from all over the nation, together into a new community, under the umbrella of "Larkin Housewives". The Larkin Company was one the earliest companies with national reach to sell a full line of branded food products – silver polish, dried macaroni, Oolong tea, root beer extract, allspice, lemon extract, etc. – into grocers. Some light soil internally. In publisher's limp grey-green cloth with an attractive Art Nouveau-style design, printed in black, orange, and silver. Very good. Scarce in the first edition. [OCLC locates one copy of the 1906 first edition (and eight copies of the second edition of the same year)].
