Illustrated with a wood engraved frontispiece portrait of the author (here present at the rear of the book), and additional illustrations in the text. Publisher's advertisements to front endpapers and preliminaries, with additional ad for a new series of handbooks tipped-in. Styled "thirtieth thousand". The illustrations appear within the index, and depict Soyer's products (stewing pan, alarm clock, vegetable drainer, stewing pan, chimney jack, and "Soyer's Kitchen for the Army"). Text block sound, with some light soiling and age-toning. Bound later in limp marbled paper, now chipped at the edges and at the head of the spine.
