The American Frugal Housewife. Dedicated to those who are not ashamed of economy. Twenty second edition, enlarged and corrected by the author.

New York: Samuel S. & William Wood, No 261 Pearl Street, 1838.

Octavo (18.5 x 11 cm.), 128 pages. Publisher's advertisements to rear boards. Styled "twenty second edition, enlarged and corrected by the author" on both the title-page and the printed boards [actual 4th edition, 12th printing]. Originally published as The Frugal Housewife (Boston, 1828) with an explanation of the change on the copyright page. The change was made so as to avoid confusion with Susannah Carter's British work of the same name and with an earlier origin. Light foxing throughout. A few individual leaves pulling; shaken and separating at rear hinge. Pencil scribbles to final page of Index and rear blanks. In printed sugar paper-covered boards, edgeworn, over tan cloth. Good only, but wholly original. [OCLC locates twenty-one copies; Bitting, page 86 (various printings); Cagle 153; Lowenstein 212].

Price: $200.00
