An important treatise on vegetable gardening, from the author of Amateur Fruit Growing, and a professor at the University of Minnesota. The instructions are appropriately for cold weather growing, written "for the growers of the Northern Mississippi Valley", at "the latitude of St. Paul and Minneapolis". The half-tone photographs are largely credited to R.S. Mackintosh, the author's assistant at the Experiment Station, although some were supplied by D. Landreth & Sons, seedsmen of Philadelphia. the work contains a good deal of detailed information on gardening for food, individual varieties, tools, insects and other pests, soil etc. One leaf dog-eared, covers of gilt-titled, green cloth binding bumped, otherwise a near fine copy. Tipped in at the title page is an advertisement for Peter Henderson & Co., Growers and Suppliers of Seeds, etc. Previous owner's name in pencil, dated 1899, to front paste-down.
