Engraved frontispiece illustrating Leavitt's Peat Condensing and Mouding Mill. ~ Third edition, revised and enlarged; nearly three times the size of the original 1865 issue, and twice that of the 1866. Peat bogs and operations are described state by state, with deposits, quality, supply, and commercial prospects. Potential uses include iron manufacture, steam generation, heating, gas from peat, peat in gunpowder and fireworks, chemical products, peat for use in pavements, paper, building, tanning, antiseptics, disinfectants, and fertilizer.
