Stated Second Edition (though really a first edition, second printing. The title and copyright page remain unchanged from the first edition, but a two page Appendix has been added at rear, containing revisions and expansions of four sections in the first edition. A new "Preface to the Second Edition", dated January 1868, follows title page. With the Table of Contents, this is the scope of the revisions, with the original text block the same. A small dampstain to the upper right-hand corner of text block; very light edgewear to publisher's brick red cloth, gilt-titled at the spine, otherwise fine. Early ownership inscription to free front endpaper, "Harold H. Davis, Chelmsford, Mass., Mar., 1906"
