Chicago: Hotel Monthly Press, 1914.

Tall thin octavo, 96, [10], [24] pages. Index. Advertisements. Later edition. While the title page states 1914, this later edition of Straub's cocktail manual, was issued during prohibition by his widow circa 1920. An ad for the work within states that the book, "Appeals in particular to caterers in foreign countries where American 'mixed drinks' are popular." Originally a pre-Prohibition cocktail recipe collection, the book has been called called the first of the "wad o' drinks" books by Robert Hess. It contains more than seven hundred recipes for drinks of all types. Includes three pages of stemware images, and a short testimonial preface by Oscar Tschirky of the Waldorf. A few stained pages, and a bit of waviness to the gilt-stamped, limp, light brown leatherette. Near very good. Handwritten recipe for "Cressy's Recipe for Martini" to memorandum page at rear.

Price: $500.00
