Food and Cookery for the Sick and Convalescent.

Boston: Little Brown and Company, 1909.

Octavo (19.5 x 13.5 cm.), 289, [16] pages. Advertisements. Photographically illustrated. Fourth printing. Originally issued in 1904. While best known for The Boston Cooking School Cookbook, Fannie Farmer had more than a passing acquaintance with issues of health, convalescence and medicine. Farmer suffered a debilitating stroke following high school, and struggled for years to regain her mobility. After her studies at the Boston Cooking School she took summer courses at the Harvard Medical School, where she later would lecture. And the school she founded under her own name, Miss Farmer's School of Cookery, developed special equipment for the invalid or convalescent. Small stain to the front edge of a few pages. Some light wear and fading to the green publisher's decorated binding. Overall, near very good. [Axford page 162; Wheaton & Kelley 2085; Cagle 248 (all citing the first edition); Bitting page 153 (later edition)].
