Notes from a Collector's Catalogue: With a Bibliography of English Cookery Books.

London: Messrs. John and Edward Bumpus, Ltd., 1909.

Octavo, 116 pages. FIRST EDITION. The first of Oxford's important gastronomic bibliographies. Along with English Cookery Books to the Year 1850, Bitting describes them as the "most detailed and exhaustive treating of English cookery books" (352). Though a text on collecting in general, approximately three-quarters of the book is dedicated to a bibliography of English cookery books dating 1508 to 1814. Quarter-cloth over gray boards worn and soiled at edges. Paper spine label rubbed and worn. Deckled edge with slight discoloration. Good plus. Bookplate of Albemarle Club, a bohemian private members' club in London of which Oscar Wilde was a member (and where his failed libel action and criminal prosecution initiated).
