A Practical Guide to Cookery in West African and the Tropics.

London: The Scientific Press Limited, [1905].

Small octavo, 160 pages [plus advertisements]. First edition. The former head of a late colonial nursing service in Sierra Leone, Sister Cockburn created this cookbook considering the importance of diet for the convalescent and in order to provide "a little pleasant change in the rather limited menu of the ordinary West African cuisine." Standard British recipes altered to consider the climate of West Africa (and the Tropics) as well as the availability and quality of ingredients. Bookseller's ticket pasted into back cover. Dampstained publisher's printed brick red cloth, still good plus.

Price: $150.00
